Sawyer Stoyanovich, Ph.D.

Environmental scientist

Sawyer is an environmental scientist with a background in environmental fate and effects monitoring with focus on large scale field studies, environmental chemistry, and statistical analyses.

Sawyer completed his PhD at the University of Ottawa, where he studied the fate and behavior of oil-derived chemicals in aquatic ecosystems. Through this work, he developed comprehensive laboratory experience using state of the art analytical techniques for the monitoring of contaminants in air, water, and sediments. He has also developed dynamic fate modeling skills using statistical software to streamline contamination prediction under different environmental conditions.

Sawyer thrives on utilizing unique techniques to visualize trends in complex datasets to ensure clear interpretability by whomever the client. With 4+ years of experience, he has collaborated with federal and provincial governments as well as academia in carrying out large-scale field programs to study the fate of contaminants in Canadian freshwater.

To date, Sawyer has published five peer-reviewed papers from leading scientific journals with focus on microcosm and mesocosm work, fate of polycyclic aromatic compounds, physical properties of oil and its impact on recovery options following spills.  We anticipate Sawyer supporting our work in the oil sands as well as with metal mines and other resource developers.
