Matt graduated from Trent University with a B.Sc. in biology and environmental resource science, where he completed an honours thesis on sea lamprey barrier impacts on native fish communities in the Great Lakes.

Matt worked for the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, where he gained experience sampling water quality in lakes and streams, collecting and sorting benthic macroinvertebrates, removing invasive macrophytes, and sampling fish communities.

He has also worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ (DFO) Sea Lamprey Control Centre (SLCC), where he helped conduct fish community assessments in tributaries across the Great Lakes, working with key partners like the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and local indigenous communities.

Since joining Kilgour & Associates Ltd. in May of 2024, Matt has worked on a variety of projects for land development clients, where he has helped to conduct species at risk, vegetation, and bird surveys, while also helping to repair and operate field equipment.

Through KAL, Matt has performed Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) inspections on construction sites in Ontario and Nunavut. Matt is excited to be working in the environmental consulting field and is enjoying the variety of jobs he has been involved in so far.
