OIL & GAS
We support the responsible development of oil and gas, providing services for environmental monitoring programs including water and sediment quality, benthic invertebrate communities and fish populations. We have worked on programs such as the Joint Oil Sands Monitoring (JOSM) program, previously RAMP, with an aim to integrate aquatic monitoring activities across different components of the aquatic environment so that long-term trends related to oil sands and other development can be identified and addressed.
We have also worked with Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) in the development of monitoring philosophies and practices. The monitoring program in Alberta is one of the worlds larges and most complicated programs. We have been asked to provide guidance and suggestions as to how to use environmental monitoring data to demonstrate that environmental goals and objectives are being met, or not.
We have worked with the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), again in the development of triggers for tiering monitoring programs. We have regularly published our analyses and suggested approaches in peer-reviewed scientific journals, to aid in demonstrating that the work these agencies are doing is high quality.
We have participated in programs monitoring the effects of offshore (Newfoundland) drilling platforms on seabed chemistry, seabed organisms, and fish. Our role involved interpretation of data using complex, rigorous statistical approaches. Our work resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, which are provide in our publications list.
